What Number Twos Do - And Why - Part 1

To find the time to get your own work done, you've got to name a successor: a Number Two. You can be forgiven for thinking that Number Two's aren't really a thing, because so few managers use them. But the best do. And here's how they delegate to them, for both the Number Two's benefit, and for YOU.

Most directs who want to become managers think that all managers do is manage. But if you're a manager you know that the "Working Manager" idea is a myth. That's because there are no NON-Working Managers. The "Working Manager" myth has always existed, as a reason for managers to NOT manage, because they are so busy with our own work, which, again, has always existed. That leaves us with the problem of how to get our own work done, alongside our managerial duties. The answer, of course, is more delegation, and the naming of a Number Two.
