I am supporting my unit in putting together a future state model for software delivery. The current teams involve traditional  roles such as program lead, scrum master, product owner, architect, developers, analyst, and QA.

With the advent of AI tools to draft User stories and test scripts, test automation, documentation and many others we expect to see in the near future, I am working on putting together the future resourcing model for software development.

I understand that Agentic AI will have a transformative impact as well. With Agentic AI combined with other AI productivity tools, what roles would we expect to see in a software delivery team in the near future (next one or two years)? And what skills would be critical for these roles to be successful.

Would love to hear all your thoughts.

I've read that agentic AI can automate tasks like drafting user stories and test scripts, which could potentially transform roles such as analysts and QA specialists. It raises questions about what new roles might emerge and what skills will be essential in this evolving landscape.

With Agentic AI and AI productivity tools, future software teams will shift toward AI-augmented roles like AI/ML Engineers, Human-AI Orchestrators, and QA specialists focused on AI automation. Critical skills include AI literacy, prompt engineering, and adaptability to manage AI-driven workflows. Traditional roles will evolve to oversee AI development outputs rather than manual execution.
