Podcast Receiver - Which is best?

Hi Everyone, I'm using a generic MP3 player and I currently use Juice as my podcast receiver. Then I use Windows Media Player to sync to my player. I'm looking for a more elegant approach. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks,

Hopefully someone else here will be able to answer your question ... I simply have no idea!

But given you're just down the road, maybe I'll just drive by and load the podcast on your MP3 player by hand each week (at least for Manager Tools) ;-)

I've been struggling with this a little as well. Juice is about the only one I can find any info on. My mp3 player (Creative Zen Vision:M - which I highly recommend) has a proprietary program called Zencast which does a pretty decent job. On my old computer it used to really bog it down though. Just got this one on Saturday so I'm hoping it works more smoothly.

Jim et al.,

I'm using a recent model iPod (was lucky enough to have been able to get it for "frequest user" points from my credit card company ;-) and unfortunately it works fine with iTunes (typical Apple simplicity, though it's my first Apple product , ever) so there's nothing I can really help with here.

Which is a pity because I'm sure Mike would like an excuse to visit Melbourne, Au to help me download the weekly podcast!

The other great thing about using Juice to download Manager Tools is that one of the Juice developers is an enthusiastic fan of Manager Tools and will rapidly fix any bugs that get in the way of his Manager Tools fix. :)

And, for anyone curious, Juice has *always* been my podcatcher of choice.

Jim - I have a Creative MUVO TX FM mp3 player. I use iTunes to manage all my podcasts. I simply plug in the mp3 player and its treated like a portable drive. Then I just drag the podcast from iTunes over to the drive letter assigned to my mp3 player, as you would in windows explorer.

May not be quite automated enough to be called elegant, but the nice thing about these mp3 players is they double as portable flash drives, so I'm used to moving files on and off as needed.

If you have an MP3 player like Steve's that can use the same storage area both to play files and store other documents, there's a cool program called myPodder which actually launches from an .exe file that is stored on your MP3 player. It's supposed to cut out the step of downloading to your PC hardrive and move content directly from the podcast feed to your portable.

My MP3 player unfortunately requires a partition of the removable storage section and cannot play files in that directory so I can't use this, but when I tried to figure it out, the program did launch from the removable storage directory and pull a podcast directly from the internet onto my portable device.

I use Juice to download to a folder and then I manually copy MP3 podcasts to my player (iRiver iFP-799 1GB).

I never liked having a 3rd party tool either iTunes or Windows Media player try to manage what was going on my player.

I might consider doing so if I didn't only have 1GB to work with.

I, too, use Juice [url]http://juicereceiver.sourceforge.net/[/url] as my podcast receiver in conjunction with MediaMonkey [url]http://www.mediamonkey.com/index.htm[/url] to manage my playlists and other MP3 functions with my iPod Shuffle.

ITunes was just driving me nuts with it's memory hogging and non-responsive (a.k.a. S-L-O-W) interface.
