Intorducing me...Joel from Essex

Hi all,

My name is Joel Zimelstern and while not a "manager" in the traditional sense, I have run my own company fighting insurance companies for the past 10 years and 11 years in a small family run company before that.

I have attempted to grow my company several times, resulting in me employing staff. However never coming from a background of being managed, the skill of management is not something that came instinctively.
Having come across Manager Tools last year I have been plowing though the back catalogue of podcasts and wish to applaud and celebrate both Mike & Mark for this incredible body of work as well as participants in the forums. The content has been inspiring and I have focused my thinking and behavior in all that I do as a consequence.

Getting through the recommended book list has also been a joy.

As well as being regarded as one of the UK's leading loss assessors (public adjuster in the US); I have an insatiable thirst for knowledge and information. This has lead me to be part of a marketing mastermind group lead by Jay Abraham, become a trainer of NLP and to coach individuals in their home and business for success.

Being able to see and act upon the difference that makes the difference has proven invaluable. Couple that with the with a mind that never accepts the status quo just because it has always been that way I find myself at a crossroads.
An incredible skill set with practical knowledge and not sure how best to leverage these attributes having never been 'corporate'.

My personal motto is:

To grow with love, compassion & integrity and to have the capacity to witness and encourage this in others

I intend to be an active member of the forums and look forward to connecting with like-minded individuals in the UK and around the world.

You said: "However never coming from a background of being managed, the skill of management is not something that came instinctively."
I think that you might actually have a better starting place than many managers.  Having never been managed before you'll have no bad habits inculcated by years of bad managers managing you badly.  MT can give you a solid foundation to build from, without having to rip out what's already there.  Additionally, as THE BOSS, you don't have a boss telling you not to do O3s &c.
Good luck, stay frosty and have at it!
Welcome to the forums.
