 Hello Everyone,

I've been listening for a while now, but have just been appointed to my first permission in management and run into my first problem.

Our business is looking to expand into copywriting content for our clients. We don't have the skills in house to be able to set up at team properly so were looking for a consultant to help us.

With there being so many copywriting consultants out there I wondered if there were any tips you would give a newbie on how to find a good consultant. What sort of things should I be looking for?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

James

Here's my top three tips

Ask for references on projects that completed in the last X months (whatever is applicable for turn around time)
Ask for examples of the deliverables that you will receive
Ask what the change management process is

I work as a consultant in the Logistics industry and am amazed when people don't ask these three questions.  I know I will when I'm back on the business side ;)
Here's the other thing that floors me - people who aren't reading the contract, then surprised at what is or isn't included.  Bad business, but I see it from really smart people.

In additon to the above, ask your network for a recommendation. I suggest you need to be very clear about what you want the consultant to do and what style will be most effective in your organisation. Finally I would consider how to embed the knowledge in the organisation as the consultant works and for when they leave.
Cheers
